Amy DeSimon is an accomplished forensic mitigation specialist and psychotherapist, recognized for her comprehensive understanding of the intricacies involved in mental health and criminal justice. She is a licensed mental health counselor in the State of New York, dedicated to assisting individuals and families navigate through the complexities of the legal system.

A Strong Academic Foundation

Amy’s impressive academic background includes earning her master’s degree from the renowned Forensic Mental Health Counseling program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Here, she also attained her undergraduate degree in humanities and justice, supplementing her knowledge with a minor in psychology.

A Broad Array of Internships and Volunteering Experience

During her undergraduate studies, Amy completed notable internships at the Monroe County District Attorney's Office and at the New York State Supreme Court in Queens, gaining practical experience in the legal field. Broadening her understanding of mental health practices across cultures, she also spent a summer volunteering at various psychiatric hospitals and mental health facilities in Sri Lanka.

From Graduate Externship to Deputy Director at Fifth Avenue Forensics

Following her academic achievements, Amy began her professional journey at Fifth Avenue Forensics. She started as a graduate extern and transitioned into the role of a clinical assistant prior to achieving her licensure and eventually rising to the position of Deputy Director. Her hands-on experience and knowledge contribute significantly to the services we provide at Fifth Avenue Forensics.

Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy

Amy provides trauma-informed psychotherapy using a variety of treatment modalities for individuals and families involved in the criminal justice system, as well as for those involved in civil litigation who have experienced trauma.

As a forensic mitigation specialist, Amy conducts comprehensive evaluations and forensic investigations. Her reports offer objective insights and effective recommendations on dispositional issues, informed by a thorough understanding of bio-psycho-social factors.
